Jacob jThe Directorate of Criminal Investigations has released what it says were the final moments before businessman Jacob Juma was discovered in a ditch near Lenana Street on the night he was killed by unknown assassins.
According to a statement by DCI director Ndegwa Muhoro, the Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and Intelligent Video Surveillance (IVS) cameras captured Juma’s vehicle at least five times traversing the area between Westlands, Mombasa Road and finally near Yaya Centre before two people reporting to police officers manning a Ms China Road and Bridge Construction site that they had seen a vehicle with shattered windows at the Southern by-pass Ngong Road.
This, he said, set off a flurry of activities that eventually led to Juma’s identification of the fatal shooting.
However, the statement appeared to contradict previous police reports, including whether the body of the businessman, who was buried on Saturday, was towed while inside the vehicle to Karen police station instead of the mortuary.
According to Muhoro, the body, after identification, was taken to the mortuary as investigations continued.
The DIC boss also gave a chronology of cases where Juma had either been sued or was the complainant, which police are probing as part of their quest to find out the person or persons responsible for his death.
Juma’s widow has previously complained police had not contacted the family and sought assistance of foreign sleuths to unravel his murder. The Opposition Cord have claimed State agents were responsible.
Here is Muhoro’s statement:
